Superstar Rajinikanth’s 159th film, Kabali has been creating a buzz in the industry lately. The photo shoot of the movie which is directed by Pa Ranjith has begun today, in AVM Studios, Chennai. Actor Dhansika who is part of Kabali’s cast told the press that she completed her test shoot and had sported casual outfits including jeans and salwar.
Initial reports about film suggested it would be titled ‘Kaali’. After much speculation, the title ‘Kabali’ was officially announced and the team revealed that Rajini will be playing an ageing gangster from Madras who settles in Malaysia. Industry analysts and critics believe that this is a good move by the superstar and will be better suited for his age.
The director Ranjith in a recent interview had said that Rajinikanth gave him the liberty to choose his own team and that the superstar believed it wasn’t necessary to cast popular actors. Radhika Apte has been roped in to play the female lead. The actress had said that she has a meaty role in the film but cannot reveal much about it. Interestingly, Karthik Subbaraj’s father, Gajaraj will also be seen in Kabali. Gajaraj has also essayed small roles in films like Mundasapatti and Jigarthanda. The cast for Kabali also includes Prakash Raj, Kalaiyarasan and Attakathi Dinesh. The film is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu with music scored by Santhosh Narayanan, editing by Praveen KL and cinematography by Murali G Kabilan. Umadevi and Gaana Baala have penned lyrics for the songs of the film.
The team of Kabali is set to commence shooting from 17 September in Malaysia and then move to Hong Kong, Thailand and finally, Chennai.
