In a never-before show of unity, top Tamil directors come together to celebrate Vetrimaaran’s International award-winning film Visaranai. Here’s a gist of what followed:
Mani Ratnam, Linguswamy, Shankar, Ram, Mohan Raja, Samuthirakani, Balaji Sakthivel, KV Anand, Sasi, Rohini, Manikandan, Ranjith, Subramaniya Siva, Stanley, Mahesh Muthusamy, Tapas Nayak and the organiser director Mysskin – the list of names who attended the felicitation of Visaranai sounded like the who’s who of Tamil industry. They had all come together for one purpose – to celebrate and salute one of their own – the very talented Vetrimaaran.
Visaranai directed by national award-winner Vetrimaaran had recently won the ‘Cinema for Human Rights’ award at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival. The film, a hard-hitting thriller is based on a novel ‘lockup’ written by a Coimbatore-based auto driver Chandrakumar.
During the event, director Mani Ratnam rained the Vetrimaaran with superlatives while others like Samuthirakani and Balaji Shakthivel were left speechless by the movie. Meanwhile, Subramaniya Siva praised the director for his courage in venturing upon such a topic (human rights violation). After watching the movie, Mysskin sent out a message stating, “Great film. My past perceptions were wrong. The movie and the maker have evolved holding each other’s hands!”
Mysskin signed off saying that the filmmakers have been knocking the doors of International arena for a decade and Visaranai will be an explosive on those doors!
The movie was screened specially for a select audience and is expected to hit screens across Tamil Nadu soon.
