Pongal 2016 seems to be an exciting affair for Tamil Cinema, as five films in five different genres are scheduled for released on the festive day.
Sundar.C’s Aranmanai 2, a prequel to the super-hit horror comedy, is a multi-starrer featuring the directot himself in addition to Siddharth, Trisha, Hansika Motwani, Poonam Bajwa, Soori and Kovai Sarala. The music is composed by the latest sensation in Kollywood, Hip Hop Tamizha.
Bala’s Thara Thappattai, a drama based on the dance form of Karagattam, features Sasikumar and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the lead roles. Sasikumar plays a Nadaswaram player in the movie, while Pragathi Guruprasad, a finalist in Airtel Super Singer Junior competition, plays his sister. The music is composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
Shakti Soundar Rajan’s Miruthan, a zombie apocalypse film – a first of its kind in Tamil cinema, features Jayam Ravi and Lakshmi Menon in the lead. The music is composed by D.Imman. Shakti Soundar Rajan had earlier made Naaigal Jaagirathai with Sibiraj.
Thirunaal, a village-centric action thriller, is directed by Ramnath, who had earlier wielded the megaphone for a comedy film titled Ambasamudram Ambani. Jiiva and Nayanthara play the leads in this Srikanth Deva musical.
Pandiraj’s Kathakali, an action thriller unlike his other two releases awaiting release, features Vishal and Catherine Tresa in the lead roles. The music is composed by Hip Hop Tamizha.
While these five films have been confirmed, some sources reveal that Pandiraj’s much delayed Idhu Namma Aalu, featuring STR and Nayanthara, is also vying for a spot in the Pongal race.
