Southern cinema has always been known for its quality content and its exceptional technical crew. Baahubali won the top laurel for best feature film and best VFX. Maestro Ilayaraja won the best background score for Bala’s Tharai Thappatai. Vetrimaaran’s Visaaranai won the best Tamil feature film award.  No surprise there. The movie shocked and impressed everyone with its realistic storytelling. The film also won the Lt. Kishore, the best editing award. Talented Director/Actor Samuthirakani won the best supporting role award for his tough cop act in Visaaranai. This takes Vetrimaaran’s tally to 9,adding Aadukalam wins. Another laurel for Dhanush’s Wunderbar Productions after Kakka Muttai. Debutant Ritika Singh got special mention for her portrayal of a female boxer from the lower strata of society in Irudhi Suttru.

Mammootty’s Pathemari won the best Malayalam feature film. M Jayachandran won best music direction for Song Kaathirunnu Kaathirunnu from Ennu Ninte Moideen. Jayasurya got the nod for special mention for his Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam & Lukka Chuppi. Best Film on Social Issues was Asif Ali’s Nirnayakam.

Kanche won the best Telugu film. The world war 2 drama stars Varun Tej and is directed by Krish.
