Music MaestroIlayaraja skipped the 63rd National Awards on Tuesday. He has won the National award for Best Background Score for the movie Tharai Thappattai. The maestro was apparently miffed with the fact he had not won the National award for Best Music director. He feels that music awards should be a single award and not divided as songs and background score. He was awarded the best background score award previously for his movie Pazhassi Raja in 2010, he felt snubbed then too. It should be noted that Ilayaraja’s brother Gangai Amaran who part of the award committee and felt the music composed by Ilayaraja was not good enough. The family fued between them has been going on for a while.

Ilayaraja had won the best Music Director Award previously for Sagara Sangamam, Sindhu Bhairavi and Rudra Veena. The award was won by Malayalam music director Jayachandran this year.
