Kabali Teaser: A freaking ride back on the time-machine
by Mani Prabhu
Egyptian style art inscriptions about the working class in the background as the title starts, Santhosh Narayanan’s insane electric guitars as the towering gangster in a Tuxedo walks into some sort of a secured area, the bearded Superstar wearing blue-shaded ‘John Lennon’ glasses breaking into that magical half-a-smirk, the man’s signature stoic laugh, a delightful, very ‘un-Rajni’ monologue which reeks of sarcasm, a brilliant shot showing a riot-like situation with a Mercedes in the foreground – the teaser of ‘Kabali’ might have had it all; but for a generation which had gone into raptures seeing the unhinged energy of the man who could set the screen on fire with his swag, it was all about one freaking spectacle!
That moment, when vintage Rajinikanth, replicating his seventies look to the tee, walks towards the camera with that nostalgic fire in his eyes and animated intent on his face. That’s exactly the kind of magic that would happen when a talented director at the helm of affairs, sincerely aspires to revive the ‘Rajni’ magic.
Dear Mr. Ranjith, a generation is thankful for the free ride on the time machine.
