Hero R Madhavan has been on cloud nine ever since his Irudhi Suttru in Tamil ( Saala Khadoos in Hindi) was a big hit with the audiences. The actor had been busy with several Hindi films and had given Tamil films a break ever since Vettai(2012), till Irudhi Suttru released in 2016. Audiences loved him in his new look as the cranky boxer who mentors a fisherwoman to make her a boxing champ, a far cry from his lover boy image. Fans started clamoring for the actor to take up more projects in Tamil which he had been neglecting. In keeping with his penchant to do roles which are different and to step away from his chocolate boy image, Madhavan has been taking his time to choose good scripts and increase his foothold in Tamil cinema.

I'm doing Charlie remake in Tamil - R Madhavan

Now looks like his fans in Tamil will have much to celebrate about, for Madhavan has zeroed in on his next Tamil project. The film is none other than the remake of the Malyalam hit Charlie (2015), which was directed by Martin Prakkat. The film had Malayalam star Dulquer Salman in the lead, which is the role Madhavan will now reprise. The Tamil remake will be directed by Madrasappatinam fame, director AL Vijay. Charlie has already bagged around 8 Kerala State Film Awards and was a much acclaimed, tantalizing romantic drama. Speaking to us, confirming the remake in Tamil, R Madhavan says, “I loved the complete feel and trip of Charlie! It was amazing to see what the lead actors Dulquer and Parvathy, director Martin Prakkat and the art director have achieved in the original. Vijay will be directing the Tamil remake and I am keen to see if we can capture the magic of the Malayalam version.”

So will fans now see more of the Tanu Weds Manu actor in Tamil movies? “Certainly,” confirms Madhavan. “I am getting many offers and I’m waiting for the right script to do more Tamil films. This remake of Charlie in Tamil is in keeping with my decision to do more Tamil films this year.”

The film will be produced by Prateek Chakrovorty and co-produced by Shruti Nallappa who have bought the remake rights. Ask him about the working with ace direcgtor Priyadarshan’s protégé director Vijay and he beams, “I have absolutely just loved Vijay’s work. His first film was fantastic and I have followed his work ever since. In fact we get along like two peas in a pod! I just can’t wait to get started on this project!”

For Madhavan’s fans in Tamil, there seems to be more good news ahead. The Charlie remake will probably go on the floors after Vijay completes his current direction Devi(L) with Tamannaah and Prabhu Deva. In the meantime, Madhavan is listening to scripts to zero in on another Tamil film as well. Looks like for his Tamil movie fans, Madhavan is all out to make up for lost time!
