Director Vetrimaaran has announced that Visaranai will be India’s official Oscar entry in the foreign language category. The film was unanimously chosen from 29 other entries. The news was communicated in a press conference by Ketan Mehta, Jury Chairperson of Film Federation of India today.
Visaranai has already won three National Awards this year – National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil, National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor – Samuthirakani and National Film Award for Best Editing – Kishore Te. The film also won the prestigious Amnesty International Italia Award for human rights in the 72nd Venice Film Festival. The film focuses on police brutality, corruption and injustice.
The film starred Attakatti Dinesh in the lead and was directed by Vetrimaaran. Dhanush produced the flick under his Wunderbar productions
