Hero SIBIRAJ is on a roll. His film KATAPPAVA KAANOM is ready for release and he’s excited about the positive response to the teaser. After Naigal Jagirathai, this is his second film revolving around the animal kingdom. The story is about Katappa, who happens to be a fish and in a chat with Sibi we discover what went into the making of the film and why it’s special to him.
“I think this is the first time someone has made a feature film revolving around fish in India,” begins Sibi. “I play an IT professional for the first time and the film is a dark comedy with a very fresh subject. Though it deals with a fish as the central point, this script came to me long before Naigal Jagirathai. It’s a fresh subject with no similarity to any other.”
Director Mani Seiyon assisted Arivazhagan before this flick which has Aishwarya Rajesh and Chandini apart from Yogi Babu, Livingston, Kaali Venkat and Mime Gopi amongst others. Sibi says, “It’s a different comedy from Jackson Durai which was a horror comedy or slapstick comedy in Naigal Jagirathai. There are more of witty one liners here.”
Ask him what the story is about and he says, “The fish itself doesn’t do anything, but everything revolves around it. But in reality, you can’t train a fish to make a film! So we used a lot of CG. Usually people think fish are very lucky to keep. So the story is about what happens when a fish enters someone’s life. It’s an out and out dark comedy.”
We want to know how his dad Sathyaraj, the original Katappa from Baahubali, reacted to the unusual title, “Dad found it very interesting! We thought about many titles but felt that Katappa being a hit character, this was the most catchy and apt for the movie,” he laughs.
