Move over 2.0, Baahubali Series and Sanghamitra, India’s biggest ever film- The Mahabharata is here. This epic film is being made with a colossal budget of 1000 crores. Funding this record breaking venture in UAE based billionaire, businessman, arts enthusiast and philanthropist Dr BR Shetty. The film will be directed by noted ad director VA Shri Kumar Menon. The film will start rolling in September next year. The film will hit screens in 2020 and will be released in two parts with the second part releasing within 90 days of the first part. The film will be shot in English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu and will be dubbed into other Indian and foreign languages.

The story of Mahabharatha will be adapted from Padma Bhushan M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s Jnanpeeth award winning novel- Randamoozham (The Second Run). The author who holds the record for the maximum number of National Awards for screen writing will write the screenplay also.

The story narrates the events of Mahabharatha from the perspective of Bhima, who is the second Pandava. Playing the iconic character will be Malayalam superstar Mohanlal who is ecstatic about being a part of this ambitious project. He humbly accepted the honor in playing the character of Bhima and thanked the director and author for considering him for the project.

The film’s technical crew will boast of some of India’s best and Academy award winners. Dr. B.R. Shetty is confident that the film will match global benchmarks and its universal appeal will ensure that the film is adapted in 100 other languages and reach 3 billion people.
