Dhanush and Vetrimaaran had started started working on their trilogy Vada Chennai last year. the film was set to be shot in three parts over a period of two years. Shoot started with Amala Paul, Andrea and Vijay Sethupathi joining the crew. However after the first schedule shooting was stalled. The second schedule started recently after a break of 4 months. Meanwhile Amala Paul and Vijay Sethupathi dropped out citing delays and date issues.
The reason behind the delay of Vada Chennai is said to be Visaranai’s Oscar entry. Visaranai was India’s official entry in the foreign language category. The film was shortlisted by the Academy also. Vetrimaaran needed time to showcase the film in Hollywood so he took a break from Vada Chennai.
It is said that Dhanush being the producer of both films asked Vetrimaaran to concentrate on Visaranai thereby delaying Vada Chennai.
