Theatres across Tamil Nadu have been shut to protest against the 30 % state entertainment tax levied by the state government in addition to GST. Vishal who heads the Tamil Nadu Producers Council called an emergency meeting to discuss the issue.

They have tabled their demands which include reduction in the cost of QUBE, film trailers should be played free of cost and 30% Entertainment tax should be waived. Also they wanted all the theaters in the state to be computerized for better transparency.

It should be recalled that Vishal has called for a industry shutdown to protest against piracy, ticket costs, GST and other industry related issues in June. However theatre owners refused to lend their support.
