Yesterday it was reported that PVR and INOX have gone on strike protesting against 10% local body entertainment tax levied in addition to GST. Following this the producers council met and took the decision to stop screening movies from October 6.

The announcement was made by council president Vishal. This will affect the release of Dulquer Salmaan’s Solo, Vizithiru and Kalathur Gramam which are scheduled to release this week. The strike will continue till government rolls back the additional 10% tax.

Currently 18% GST is levied on tickets priced below 100Rs and 28% GST on tickets priced above 100Rs. An additional 10% on Tamil films and 20% on non-Tamil films will push ticket prices higher.

The big question is that if the strike continues, it may affect the release Diwali releases including the biggie -Vijay’s Mersel.
