A PIL was filed by an advocate named Ashwathaman asking the court to revoke the censor certificate given to Vijay’s film Mersal. The film was given a U/A before release on October 18.

The High Court has today passed its judgment today. It has dismissed the case and has sent a strong message to the petitioner. It has asked why a film which was made for entertainment must be treated like a real life incident. It also said that the voice of minorities cannot be squashed in a democracy. It also pulled up the petitioner why he targeted this film when he could have raised a issue with film with violent, smoking or drinking scenes.

This comes as a major relief to Sri Thenandal Films. Another PIL was also filed stating that the film hurt religious sentiments. Details awaited.
