The strike called for by the Tamil Nadu Producers Council is in a dead lock. Their talks with Information Minister has led to a deadlock. The state government has refused to waive the additional 10% local entertainment tax for Tamil films.
Adding to this is the fact that Multiplex owners are refusing to lower prices. The producers council wants to roll back the theatre prices to 120 for AC and 80 for non-AC but multiplex owners do not want to reduce the ticket prices from 160. They have stated that they play other language movies also and the price hike is justifiable.
With the TNPC facing both the Multiplex owners and State government, resolution seems bleak. The strike is in its second week as no films will be screened this week also. If the strike continues, the biggest loser will be Vijay’s big budget release Mersel.
