– Sandeep Varma
Reputed Director Gautham Vasudev Menon is finally debuting in Malayalam cinema. Though the Director had reportedly wanted to direct a Malayalam movie for a long time, he is making his debut as an actor in Mollywood. You read it right, GVM, as he is fondly called, was in kochi recently for the official audio launch of forthcoming Malayalam movie “Naam”, where he will be seen playing a cameo as ‘GVM’ himself.
Association with Naam
Naam is produced and directed by Joshy Thomas Pallickal under the banner of JTP films. The movie is a campus thriller revolving around the lives of 10 friends. Naam is a musical entertainer, probably the only Malayalam movie with lot of songs post super hit ‘Premam’. There are nine songs in the film and eight of them are penned by the Premam fame Shabareesh Varma. The music is by debutant duo Ashwin Shivadas and Sandeep Mohan . ” I liked the musical approach of the film”, says GVM “and when Joshy requested me that I should do a role, I was apprehensive in the beginning but then he gave me confidence and I thought I must be part of this good movie.” The movie is based on a real-life incident and the director Joshy’s narration is said to have left the ace Director spell-bound. GVM who is currently busy shooting Vikram-starrer Dhruva Natchitharam flew to Chennai to shoot for Naam.
140 Plus debutants
The film has close to 140 debutants and the lead roles are played by Shabareesh Varma, Rahul Madhav, Gayathri Suresh, Aditi Ravi, Tony Luke, Mareena Michael and Saiju Kurup. The title song Naam is already a YouTube sensation and the film is expected to hit the theatres in Jan 2018.
As for his directorial debut in Mollywood, GVM discloses that he plans to direct a Malayalam movie in 2018. It is to be noted that GVM had met Malayalam Superstar Mohanlal with a script recently, the Director revealed that he is ‘hopeful of doing a film with the Superstar soon’. We will have to wait and watch if his debut would be with Lalettan.
