Last year Sankaranthi saw the release of two big ticket films – Chiranjeevi’s comeback film, Khaidhi 150 and Balakrishna’s Gauthamiputra Satarkini. This year was also a packed year for Telugu film releases.
However barring the average performance of Balakrishna’s Jai Simha, all the other releases have performed poorly. The biggest let down has been Pawan Kalyan’s Agnyaathavaasi. The film opened very well on January 10 but has seen a sharp dip in audience since then. The film has resulted in massive losses for distributors who paid good money for the theatrical rights.
Suriya’s Gang has performed adequately with theaters increasing the number of shows. Finally Raj Tarun’s Rangula Raatnam sank without a trace.
