The 4 major South Indian film industries have announced that the strike will happen from March 1, after several rounds of futile talks between them and the Digital Service Providers (DSPs). The four film industries have claimed that the Virtual Print Fee charged by Digital Service Providers such as Qube or UFO is too exorbitant.
Producers allege that the costs come up to Rs 22,500 per screen for a regional film. This expense is not matched for the producer, whereas, the theatre operators and DSPs earn them though advertising. However, Co-founder of Qube insists that their charges are among the lowest in the world and most flexible.
The Tamil Film Producer Council has also announced this and stated that it will continue until further notice from the councils. Let’s hope they come to terms before the vacation begins!
