The very own ‘Isaignani’ of Kollywood, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja has been conferred the second-highest civilian award in the Republic of India – ‘Padma Vibhushan’. The maestro has over thousand films across languages spanning over three decades to his credit.
He was among 42 other prominent personalities from all walks of life to be honoured with the prestigious Padma awards for 2018 by President Ram Nath Kovind. The function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan was attended by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several other dignitaries.
Having made his debut as a composer with 1976 Tamil film ‘Annakili’, Ilayaraja has rendered some soul stirring music in hit films ’16 Vayadhinile’, ‘Nayakan’, ‘Sagara Sangamam’, ‘Mouna Ragam’, ‘Sindhu Bhairavi’, ‘Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal’ and ‘Raaja Paarvai’ including ‘Sadma’, ‘Paa’, and ‘Cheeni Kum’ in Hindi.
The 5 time National award winner composer, has launched the careers of many singers like Chitra, SP Balasubramaniam and Yesudas.
