The Tamil cine industry has been facing hiccups since March 1 due to the TFPC opposing the exorbitant rates charged by the Digital Service Providers; theatre owners demanding the State Government to abolish the local body tax and more. With both the parties not reaching an amicable solution, the Tamil cine industry declared a total shutdown from March 16, grinding to a halt, film shootings and new any releases.

Amidst this dull situation, it was announced yesterday, that TFPC has given special permission for 4 films to resume shooting. This included ‘Thalapathy 62’, ‘Naadodigal-2’, ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’, and an untitled film. This has stirred up a hornets’ nest with many celebrities who have expressed their displeasure at the preferential treatment that is being meted out.

Social media has been flooded with comments from many Tamil film personalities that includes Siddharth, Karunakaran, J Satish Kumar, R Sarath Kumar, and director Manobala who have openly expressed their disappointment at the favouritism shown. Despite the TFPC’s statements, the industry does not seem convinced with the preferential treatment given towards some films.
