Double Grammy winner AR Rahman published a lengthy Facebook post on why he chose to compose music for an Iranian film named Muhammad: The Messenger of God. The film and Rahman landed in trouble after a Mumbai-based Muslim group allegedly issued a fatwa recently against Rahman and the film’s director Majid Majidi.

In his Facebook post that quotes Quran aplenty, Rahman writes: “I didn’t direct or produce the film I just did the music.” He added, ” My decision to compose the music for the film was made in good faith and with no intention of causing offence.”

He then takes on the virtual world where unethical comments are made against the Holy Prophet and requests people to counter it with love and kindness.

On religious freedom in India, the maestro declared, “We are indeed fortunate and blessed to live in a country like India where religious freedom is practiced and where the aim of all communities is to life in peace and harmony sans confusion and violence.”
