Director Bala, who is awaiting the release of his rural-dance based film Thara Thappattai, would be reviving veteran film-maker Bharathiraja’s dream project Kuttraparambarai for his next. Touted to be a controversial multi-starrer, the film is believed to explore the travails and practiced of denotified tribes prevalent in the late 19th century in the British era.
Denotified Tribes are the tribes that were originally listed under the Criminal Tribes Act of 1871 as “Criminal Tribes” and inducted to the systematic commission of non-bailable offences. Once a tribe became “notified” as criminal, all its members were required to register with the local magistrate, failing which they would be charged with a “crime” under the Indian Penal Code.
Vishal, Arya, Atharva and Arvind Swamy are already believed to be part of this ambitious project. Now sources reveal that actresses Manisha Koirala and Anushka have been approached to play significant roles.
The film produced by Bala under his home banner, is said to go on floors by July 2016. Exciting days ahead, for cineastes!
